Jared was a three-year varsity starter, all-conference and all-Western Iowa player for Clarinda High School, helping the program to its best state tournament finish in school history as a senior in 2012. He played one collegiate season at Simpson College before pivoting to pursue a journalism career and transferring to Iowa State. While studying in Ames, Jared started as the intern for Cyclone Fanatic, before ultimately being hired full-time as the site’s staff writer in 2016. Jared spent the following seven years covering Iowa State football and men’s and women’s basketball on a daily basis, writing columns, news updates and recording podcasts. This allowed Jared the opportunity to have front row views of coaches like TJ Otzelberger, Steve Prohm, Fred Hoiberg and Bill Fennelly plus the chance to watch the development of eventual pros like Georges Niang, Monte Morris, Tyrese Haliburton and Bridget Carleton. Since leaving journalism and moving to Minnesota in 2023, Jared has coached the last two years for Minnesota Bobcats and will be the varsity boys assistant at St. Paul Como Park in 2025-26.
